New vineyard, new growth
The NEW 2023 south vineyard was just planted with 1,800 new vines that have already begin to sprout! This growth adds to the grand total of almost 5,000 vines across six and a half acres!
Our vineyard crew has also grown to a total of 7 employees that are working hard in the rain, sun, and heat to ensure that these delicate plants have the best quality of planting and growing for the years to come. New beginnings need gentle and deliberate care to begin their deep root systems!
We can’t wait to continue to share this incredible journey with you all!! 🚜 🍇
The 2,050 new Itasca and La Crescent grapevines that were planted in the With the Wind North Vineyard in May 2021 are seeing tremendous growth. Thanks to drip irrigation, the extreme heat and drought have not negatively affected them. Most of the plants are now developing their leaves, tendrils and cordons rapidly and reach beyond their grow tubes. The goal for this season is for the vines to grow to the upper trellis wire. During the first three years, training and root development is paramount to achieve plant maturity that will then yield productive yearly grape crops thereafter.
The 900 Frontenac, Frontenac Gris and King of the North grapevines in the With the Wind South Vineyard are having a super summer. A full irrigation system was recently installed, mechanical shoot thinning, some training and pruning have all been completed. The sunny and hot days have been very well received, as this is exactly what these vines desire. We look forward to a bountiful harvest for our 2021 vintage wines and will be mechanically harvesting this vineyard toward early September. CHEERS!
